Miguel Cantero
José Miguel Cantero was born in 1974 in Hellín ("Ciudad del Tambor"), Albacete, Spain, and has performed in prestigious concert halls and festivals throughout Europe (Spain, Germany, Italy, Sweden, Austria, Estonia and Hungary) as well as in Australia, Canada and Morocco, incluiding concerts at the Reina Sofía Contemporary Museum (Madrid), Auditorio Nacional (Madrid), "Festival dos abrazos" (Santiago de Compostela), FEX (International Music Festival of Granada), Kursaal (San Sebastian), "Tor Vergata" University of Roma, etc…
Specializing in contemporary music, Miguel is a multi-faceted musician also interested jazz, improvisation and electroacoustic music.
In addition to the Sinoidal Ensemble, which performs contemporary music, develops the work of the most interesting spanish composers and has realized the CD De la copia al original, he has also performed with numerous chamber ensembles including the improvisation group Infinito, Sigma Project, Ensemble Atmosphère (2 CD published: Ensemble Atmosphère with pieces by Xenakis, Rossé, Nodäira, Hoffman; and Chemins [de la nature à la culture] with improvisation works). He has realized collaborations with the Orquesta Sinfónica de Madrid and the Orquesta Sinfónica de Euskadi, and is also artistic and musical director of the Compañía General de Saxofones. As a jazz musician Cantero is a member of the Insostenible Big Band and the Big Band de Murcia, performed concerts at the Jazz Festivals of Murcia and Cartagena, and realised a CD with the group Could Be Jazz. He has performed with outstanding musicians like Billy Cobham (Murcia Jazz Festival).
He currently teachers saxophone at the Conservatorio "Maestro Artola" in Málaga, Spain. Before this, he was teaching at the Conservatorio Superior de las Islas Baleares and Conservatorio Superior de Granada. He has given master-classes at schools throughout Europe ( Vienna, Cologne, Franckfurt, Tallin, Avellino, Sevilla, Huelva, Burgos, Vitoria, Alicante and many more) and USA (Augustana College).
Cantero is a graduate from Conservatorio Superior de Murcia (Spain) and Conservatorie Jacques Thibaud in Bordeaux (France), where he studied saxophone with Francisco González Campillo, Sixto Herrero, Jean-Marie Londeix and Marie-Bernadette Charrier. Recently, he has completed a master-degree in electroacoustic composition where he studies with Alberto Bernal, Sergio Luque and Juan Carlos Blancas.
